Katrin Greiner

Katrin Greiner is a photographer and visual artist based in Berlin. She was born in Düsseldorf and studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, graduating in 2012. In 2023/2024, she participated in the PhMuseum Masterclass CURAE on curatorial practice, led by Erik Kessels.

Her artistic practice is rooted in existential challenges and the emotional processes they evoke. She works across disciplines, combining photography with handcrafted sculptural elements. The act of shaping these objects by hand creates an intimate, almost meditative connection to the work – resulting in a fragile, often surreal visual language.

In Greiner’s work, flowers, plants, animal specimens and medical objects connect like fragile memories. Arranged in self-made sculptures and photographed, they reveal the tension between life and decay, strength and fragility. Plants symbolize impermanence and transformation, while animal and medical objects evoke the vulnerability of the body, injury and healing. Bound by needles and threads, the elements form a dialogue between life and death. Each sculpture becomes a symbol of human existence: the search for balance amid chaos and the beauty found in our own vulnerability.
