Yulia Lavrova

In my work, I follow intuition and explore traditionally feminine intangible qualities and hidden layers of our emotions by creating free-flowing, low-relief ceramic wall sculptures. They are an ode to my matriarchal lineage. My grandmother worked as a painter in a ceramic factory during the Soviet Union. I remember seeing these art pieces as a kid in my grandparents’ house, where I spent my childhood summers constantly observing the garden, nature, and animals. In a way, I’m intuitively continuing this tradition with my own sculptural practice. Creative expression becomes a bridge between those memories, that sense of freedom and unconditional love, and my present dreams.
