Born and raised in North Rhine-Westphalia, Maja Herrmann now lives and works in Hamburg. The artist's background story is fascinatingly intertwined with a passion for travelling. After graduating from high school, she began a career in tourism, which allowed her to explore different cultures and landscapes. This exposure to different environments was a continuous source of inspiration and profoundly influenced her artistic style. How did you get into art?

My artistic journey is as colourful and varied as my artworks. My background story is fascinatingly intertwined with my passion for travelling. After graduating from high school, my fascination for travelling led me into the world of tourism, where I embarked on a successful career. Art always remained a companion along the way. Eventually, I found a way to combine both passions. I took the leap to put art back in the foreground and now combine travelling and art in a unique symbiosis.

How would you describe your style? What makes your work special?

My artistic style is a vibrant exploration of abstract acrylic painting. My canvases are filled with the energy of vibrant metropolises, the vibrancy of colourful markets, colourful underwater worlds and the dynamism of lively islands. My paintings reflect my daily experiences, with everyday impulses, emotions and impressions flowing seamlessly into my work. This is what makes my work special. How do you go about developing your work?

I often start my work with an inspiration or a feeling. I make sketch notes to capture and develop my ideas. Next, I choose the materials I want to use, canvases, colours or other things. As I work, I often let my creativity guide me, experimenting and trying out new techniques. It is important for me to create a space that inspires me, where I can express myself freely and express my thoughts and emotions through my art.Who or what influences you?

I and my art are strongly influenced by my personal experiences, travelling and emotions. Especially my children inspire me with their innocence, imagination, curiosity and spontaneous creativity.

Make us curious. What are you planning to do next?

I am always looking for new techniques, colour combinations and materials to develop my art further. I have exciting projects planned. Stay tuned for my creative journey.Learn more about the artist:
