Ludovic Philippon was born in 1973 in Rochefort, a medium-sized town on France's Atlantic coast. Today, he lives in the south of France, north of Montpellier, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Cévennes mountains, with his wife and two children. He lives in the peaceful countryside, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, and this close-to-nature lifestyle brings him the peace and inspiration he needs for his work as a painter. Before devoting himself entirely to painting, he worked as an architect for 20 years.
Since when do you paint and what are your favourite motives?
I've been painting since I was a child, but it's only since 2016 that painting has totally come into my life. I love the solitude of the studio and the time bubble induced by pictorial research.
When you create a new work, how do you proceed? What comes first?
I look at the raw linen canvas from all angles and the light is already giving me directions. Then I pick up a chalk and start tracing. If nothing comes, I don't persist and let time do its work.
From what do you get your motivation?
Painting inscribes me in a temporality where I can experience multiple tensions at play. The sound of the brush on linen and the pleasure of color forging space fill me.
Your life without art would be...
Flavorless and so sad !
What is the best art place in your city at the moment?
My town is a hamlet of about thirty inhabitants where the only best art place are the surrounding landscapes where vineyards, woods and paths intertwine.
