Five questions to Pamir Kargin

Five questions to Pamir Kargin

Pamir Kargin is a self-taught contemporary abstract artist who works and lives in Istanbul, Turkey. She was born in 1991 in Ankara, Turkey. Having previously worked more on FX prosthetics and studio makeup projects, she now enjoys focusing on painting and drawing. In her artistic practice, she examines multiple dimensions of playfulness, particularly how they relate to public and private self-representation over the years. Her abstractions mirror the interplay of past and present, imagined and tangible, what is lost and what remains of one's self-projection, in a dynamic, whimsical manner.Since when do you paint and what are your favorite motives?

I've been painting for about ten years now, ever since I delved into FX prosthetics and special makeup effects. My motives often lean towards abstract concepts and experimental techniques.

Whether it's playing with colors, textures, or forms, I find joy in creating visually striking compositions that evoke emotions.

When you create a new work, how do you proceed? What comes first?

I usually start with a simple idea — a line, a circle or a basic geometric form. Then, I experiment with materials and techniques to bring it to life, refining as I go. It's an intuitive process where each stroke follows the next, resulting in a creation that resonates with both myself and hopefully the viewer. From what do you get your motivation?

From various sources, including personal experiences, emotions and observations of the world around me. Inspiration often comes from everyday moments, interactions with others and sometimes traveling. I find motivation in the works of other artists, both contemporary and historical, whose work push me to continually explore new avenues in my own artistic practice. Ultimately, my motivation stems from a deep passion for self-expression. Your life without art would be...

Just sad. It’s the lens through which I perceive and interact with the world.
