Born in 1967 in Tourcoing, the french painter Guillaume Caron studied Arts applied in the wellknown ESAAT – Roubaix (France). He currently lives and works in a Vauban fort at the Belgium border, an amazing place in Menin offering space and light. His work is based on abstraction, dominated with light and colours, inherited from 20 years in Amazonia and linked to his current love story with Venice…Tell us your story, why did you become an artist?
Guillaume Caron devoted his life to art one way or another : studying at the famous ESAAT- Roubaix (arts applied department), he was graduated in 1985 and got a diploma afterwards as an interior designer. He showed his talent in various scope of activity such as fashion, advertising, music, graphics, design, architecture…
When you create a new work, how do you go about it? What comes first?
Travelling across Amazonia and working on different projects over there for roughly 20 years has certainly influenced his colourful work inspired by vegetal for a man who painted the forest. Spending lots of time in Venice for the last few years keeps bringing light and colours to his work, as his last exhibition in Lille called « Altana » proved it ! Music plays a great part in his inspiration too.What can you tell us about your studio, what makes it special to you and how does it influence the way you work?
This lucky artist benefits from a 700 square meters place and 9 meters high walls as he lives and works in a former Vauban fort in Menin-Belgium ! An amazing and inspiring place absolutly perfect for large-scale works and offering a great combo of space and light.Is there a work of art in your life that has especially impressed you?
His true love for Italy and the Sistine Chapel was a source of creation over the years : he painted here and there parts of the worldwide known ceiling in various places as restaurants, hotels, private apartments… more than 2000 square meters in 2 years ! He probably reproduced more than a third of the ceiling in his whole life !
Reach to the stars: where will you be in 5 years?
For a man of no borders and definitely in love with wide places, extending his network all over France and abroad would be a great opportunity. After a church and a fort, maybe a place to live in Italy too, some kind of venitian palace…Learn more about the artist:
